About
AllKinds is a multidisciplinary design and fabrication studio that creates custom art installations for commercial and public spaces. With commissions from corporations, organizations, art consultants, branding agencies and architecture firms, we tailor-make each artwork to fit large-scale spaces for brands, interiors, events and movements. Our dedicated team of designers, artists and fabricators mix materials and techniques to create art and objects that are innovative, meaningful, beautiful and on-brand. We thrive in our collaborative approach, welcoming new ideas and getting excited about the “what ifs”. Our combined skillsets and handmade approach enables us to produce anything we can conceive, including even the most complex or technical concepts. With every project, our shared goal is to create a meaningful environment that tells a story in an elevated, authentic and impactful way. And nothing makes us happier than creating that story utilizing materials that were once meant for the landfill and giving them new life. At a project’s completion, we make every effort to repurpose, recycle, or donate any salvageable materials to ensure we’re making a positive (or lasting) impact in our community and environment.

Deeds
Every project that comes through our doors is an opportunity to do good. Sustainability and thoughtful consumption are principles foundational to our work, so whenever possible we source salvaged materials that we can repurpose. We strive to keep materials intact after a project’s useful life so they can live on in a new way with continued appreciation by the community. Whether donating materials, furniture and time to organizations or nonprofits, or meticulously taking an installation down piece-by-piece to save for recycling or reuse, we always look for ways to elevate our purpose, put good vibes into the world and act with conscience. We do not always get to find out what happens to materials when they are donated, but when we do, we share it here.
Projects
We take everyday objects and apply extraordinary techniques to create custom works of art that are innovative, elevated, contemporary and timeless. We find magic in material—the special something about collecting and assembling large quantities of materials and carving out spaces for their thoughtful use. Much of our work is created in our studio and on-site with our team of designers, artists, fabricators and technicians. We view each project as an opportunity to build something amazing together that makes an impact and creates a human connection for brands, public spaces and movements.

Chicago Community Trust Installation
We were invited to create wishing trees for the Chicago Community Trusts 100th anniversary celebration. As they looked to the second century, Chicago Community Trusts wanted to renew their commitment to Chicago. They asked their community to get together and share wishes for a sustainable and vibrant future.
All the wishes were harvested and CCT made them into an inspiring notebook and they are saved for future wishing tree installations. The trees were donated to Neighborspace and placed into community gardens in Chicago.

Mead Johnson
Luft was contracted by Partners by Design to help integrate Mead Johnson's branding into their stunning reception area. We were given their baby formula labels to experiment with and a 30' wall as our canvas. Inspired by blowing bubbles, we turned the labels into small circular cones playfully organized them by size and color along the wall. They were sculpted into an organic form to create a structure - harmonizing the architectural space with the light hearted art work. All extra materials were donated or recycled.

One Medical
One Medical is bringing us a new way to communicate with our medical professionals. They invited us to develop a new window display for their Chicago location and we honed in on using wood spheres to emphasize their logo in a spiral shape - - because their health care for you only grows and grows.

North Shore Mammogram Event
88 Brand Partners approached us to help them activate The Cube at Westfield's Old Orchard Mall for 2015's Breast Cancer Awareness month. Taking weight off of the very heavy issue of breast cancer we helped them highlight the never ending spirit of survivors and their support community with an epic 30'x30' balloon installation and an expanse of paper butterflies taking flight.

Highland Park Library
Created during tenure at INDO. For the 100th anniversary of the Highland Park Library a 12' x 4' installation was made using a material of the past: old card catalog cards.
Photography: Julia Stotz

Versteel
Created during tenure at INDO. Versteel, located in the Merchandise Mart, always wants designers to feel limitless, starting with the seemingly endless variety of materials Versteel offers. For Neocon 2014, INDO created an infinity symbol out of their material samples. What better way to embody “endless possibilities?”
Materials were later disassembled as reused as materials swatches for the company.

Honeymaid
Created during tenure at INDO. Honey Maid wanted to respond with love to less than loving comments about a Droga5-produced commercial featuring diverse families. A dozen volunteers, from friends to loved ones to people from the agency, gathered in an old warehouse to help INDO create a sculpture comprised of paper featuring all the positive public responses.
Beyond a huge outpouring of online support, the paper was saved and the sculpture appeared in a show at the Lacuna Artists Lofts in Chicago as well as in LA at the Paley Center for a night celebrating the LGBT television industry and was then recycled.

88 Brand Partners
Completed during tenure at INDO. 88 Brand Partners moved from closed off office environment with cubicles and small rooms to an open floor plan in the South Loop of Chicago. We had the opportunity to redefine the look of their space by putting the way they work - collaboratively - at the forefront of the design. Many small breakout areas are paired with the open desk plan. Entire walls of cork are used for pinnable areas and custom pieces by local fabricators are highlights of the space. Notably the conference table by Strand Design and a bookcase area by Vero LLC.
At the first impression of the space we made an omage to the brand's all heads together approach, and created their logo out of thousands of map pins.

Art Institute - Snap Gala 2015
Over 20,000 found slides from all over the world were used to create the centerpieces and art installation for the Snap Gala event. Since the event concept was CMYK, we paired each slide with a colorful gel so that it would be illuminated and showcase these colors.
The art installation itself was unadorned, standard slides, but we used CMY lights shining color onto the slides to create beautiful, colorful shadows at points of overlap. Typically taboo in lighting design, we intentionally embraced these color moments.

Land of Nod
Created during tenure at INDO. Sourcing reclaimed toy capsules is exactly the kind of project we loved at INDO and continue to love at Luft. When Land of Nod reached out about creating a colorful backdrop we jumped in. Pluck and luck led us to a supplier on eBay, just outside of Chicago too, who had been stockpiling old toy capsules. The piece now permanently hangs in the Land of Nod headquarters in Seattle.

Riddell
Spark challenged us to create a logo out of woven chin strap material from Riddell's classic helmets. We responded creating a 4x8 loom to weave the material, hand cut their logo out of the weaving and secured the edges. Now the hand made signage is at two of their locations greeting staff and customers alike.

Cars.com
Partners by Design designed an office for cars.com that harkened to driving off into the sunset and their concept for this installation was nothing short of that. We chose to rely on the beauty of the wall covering for color, and layer a classic black matte and gloss acrylic overtop matte vinyl to create depth to the artwork.

KALISHER & AVROKO
900 N Michigan invited local artists to create installations for their multi floor renovation. In collaboration with Avroko we developed and produced a 30' long brass and acrylic sculpture for the main entryway to the Art Deco inspired Aster Hall.

KALISHER & AVROKO
900 N Michigan invited local artists to create installations for their multi floor renovation. In collaboration with Avroko we developed and produced laser cut coral fans that were attached to the wall at different levels to create a dimensional coral reef installation.

CHICAGO ART SOURCE
Chicago Art Source commissioned us to create a work that has an organic look and feel. We looked to eggs for a form inspiration and were inspired by pairing that shape with cast concrete. To achieve the shapes we 3d printed the egg forms to cast. The 10' x 12' backdrop was hand painted to blend into the existing granite walls.

Elkay
As a leading manufacturer of sinks and faucets, Elkay wanted to utilize leftover raw material from their products to create an installation at their headquarters in Chicago. We designed a hanging installation using the circular, metal blanks punched from Elkay sinks on the production line. We were inspired by how water travels and undulates as it moves. We created this installation out of 30,000 blanks.

WNDR museum
As a new museum experience, WNDR reimagines the traditional museum and invites you to be curious and playful. We were tasked with developing a sensory installation with MHUB. This installation pushes soundless audio files into the flowing white and blue wires. The only way to discover the sounds is to use the custom designed listening device disguised as a metal can, a playful throwback to the childhood game of telephone. One can discover all different sounds throughout the display.
MHUB concepted, designed and fabricated the listening device system - truly a brilliant team!

NBC Tower
With an unused room, NBC wanted to create a portal to another world, only discoverable by a tiny hole in a wall next to the entrance of their office. In this space we created a tranquil, grass and flower covered meadows with clouds and blowing winds - inspired by their German homeland. Only the curious may encounter this portal and reset their minds to a more peaceful focus as they gaze upon this scene. We utilized grasses from Chicago's alleyways and handmade tiny paper cut flowers to trickle throughout this piece.

Belvedere
Spark Chicago wanted to introduce playful, gambling-focused installations at the headquarters of Belvedere, a trading company located in Chicago. The phrase ‘All In’ was created with individual poker chips at varying heights to give a colorful and playful feel to their rec room.
Photography: Meagan Shuptar

Belvedere
Out of the 3 installations created for Belvedere Trading Company, this has the most unique material. Beautiful playing cards were sourced in many colors so that we could create a sunny landscape on the wall. We designed a dimensional origami-like display that can be viewed from all angles and changes as you walk by to reveal the image.

Belvedere
A hand painted map sits on a wall in the reception area of Belvedere Trading Co., a beautiful office space with environmental graphics by Spark Chicago. Atop the map sit 3d printed buildings, each representing iconic buildings of Chicago that Belvedere has a tie to.

Crowne Plaza for Kalisher
This installation was meant to bring a lightness and brightness to this space, situated in Chicago's Logan Square neighborhood. We chose to work with 2 way mirror to reflect light up onto the ceiling. Chicken feathers were happily sourced from Running Bug Farm and were sealed with resin and used as a whimsical touch throughout the piece.

Sprout Social
Sprout Social is a company that wants to push their boundaries and inspire their employees to do so too. We had the pleasure of installing three pieces to invigorate the day to day of their employees. Each piece was designed by a Sprout Social staffer and fabricated and installed by us. Special thanks to the designers, Melissa Flowers, Nick Lacke and Rusty Cook.

Paylocity
Paylocity's branding firm, Spark, invited us to reimagine their logo in a variety of materials meant to showcase the depth of values the company's employees hold. Armed with a material idea from the branding company and their logo we set out on many material explorations to deliver logos with texture and depth. Alongside the art installations, we were asked to paint some murals, also with creative done by Spark.

Core Gainsville
Core Gainsville wanted a series of custom artworks to adorn their themed interiors. We made several interventions in the space and brought the bright Florida nature inside through hand-painted graphics and dimensional artworks. The project was topped off with a large rooftop mural.

Mondelez + Johalla Projects
Mondelez International is a company that’s known for classic snacks such as Cadbury and Oreos. In collaboration with Johalla Projects, we designed and created a piece of art that harkened back to the town of Bournville, the birthplace of Cadbury chocolate. The image was made with found building materials from throughout Fulton Market, where the mural lives housed within Mondelez’s new chocolatier.
Photography: Ian Vecchiotti

24 E Washington
Clayco and Brookfield Properties commissioned us to create two works, one large-scale mural on a brick wall and another series of images, for their cafe space. Their location in the old Marshall Field’s building informed the two works we designed and installed, drawing inspiration from textiles and the fashion industry that was once housed there. The result was one graphic mural - a painted representation of woven fabric and a series of three large textured illustrations that offer a bold and fresh connection to timeless fashion.
Photography: Ian Vecchiotti

Numerator
Numerator is a market research company and wanted a mural to celebrate the data-rich science of its brand. We designed and painted a colorful mural for their new office space - the curves are influenced by the mathematical representation of how they take in receipts to their panel. The colors are deep and full, just like Numerator’s company culture.

Brookfield Lobby
Brookfield Properties wanted a warm and welcoming piece that would seamlessly fit in the lobby of their building at 175 W Jackson. This large-scale lenticular signage provides a dynamic viewing experience, showing the building address when viewed from one side of the lobby and changing into a solid rectangle as visitors to the building walk by. The piece is enhanced by nearby gold leaves that hang as if falling from the skylight, a previous AllKinds installation.
Photography: Ian Vecchiotti

Tribune Tower + Soho Myriad
The iconic Tribune Tower received a major redevelopment, and we were honored to receive a commission for a piece in their lobby. Drawing inspiration from Chicago area wind maps, we hand cut over 3,000 ceramic pieces, and laid them out in large wind “swoops”. This piece is full of delicate detail and brings a lively sense of movement to the space.
Photography: Ian Vecchiotti

Fulton Labs & Soho Myriad
We had the pleasure of collaborating with Soho Myriad on developing a custom hanging artwork for this stunning location in Fulton Market. The building is compromised of scalable life science laboratories to rent out - the first of its kind in Chicago.
The hanging art piece spans 40' x 10' in the lobby space and is made of custom brass and mirrored acrylic pieces. The shapes and composition is inspired by the curves of the building paired as well as molecular shapes.
Photography: Ian Vecchiotti

Luna Bay + Groundswell
Luna Bay Booch wanted a pop-up retail space for their hard kombucha merch that would double as a location to host events and daytime hang-outs. We partnered with Groundswell Experiential to design and create a fun, light, and casual space, dubbed “Boochquarters”, that features a custom faux-terrazzo bar and complimentary merch area for their very first brick and mortar experince.
Photography: Ian Vecchiotti

Google Chicago + Spark
Google's Chicago HQ (designed by Partners by Design and EGD by Spark Chicago) included many unique art pieces that we helped develop and create. From an orange burst ceiling, to phone book covered walls, to salvaged games (ones with missing pieces) creating the Google G icon - their space is a unique branded haven for their employees.
Photography: Ian Vecchiotti

NEXUS + WHITNEY
Whitney designed a two story lobby space for the new Nexus Headquarters on the Wisconsin Border. To honor the height, the view from the second floor and the exterior we designed a full height string art logo that utilized their brand colors
Photography: Ian Vecchiotti

Google Cloud
When Google Cloud Chicago re-imagined their office space, they invited us to design an artistic new Google Cloud logo for their space. Thousands of simple shaped blocks, like information in the cloud, sit on monofilament creating a textural logo, all hand dyed to match Googles brand colors.

Jones Day
Jones Day wanted to showcase their international locations through a work of art. Spark conceived this beautiful design and they tasked AllKinds with bringing it to life with more dimension. 41 of the metal petals were engraved with the locations and the height of each petal gets closer towards the wall at the center.
Each petal was individually waterjet-cut and engraved, then pin mounted to the wall with matching metal standoffs. Whether you see it as a flower, a mandala or a school of fish, it leaves a striking impression and contrasts beautifully with the warm wood paneling.

Each iconic building was meticulously designed and then painstakingly sculpted, sometimes page-by-page, with plenty of Easter eggs made especially for the Box team.

Photography: Mark Peterman

Indiewalls x Amazon Arlington
Indiewalls invited us to design and create a custom art installation for the Amazon HQ in Arlington, VA. We were inspired by the texture of the iconic recycled mailer and set out to capture its essence in ceramic form. There are a total of 162 unique tiles that were each formed, glazed, and installed by hand.
Photography: Zen Lense

BUILDERS VISION + SPARK
Builders Vision was looking to add feature walls in their Chicago office that reflected their brand as well as brought in natural elements. We painted watercolor murals throughout their office, created lasercut acrylic features inspired by the sun, installed a spinnable employee mobile and flippable cork board, and incorporated river rocks inside and alongside two fish tanks.
Photography: Ian Vecchiotti & David Ditzler

HYATT MAG MILE + ANDERSON MILLER
Hyatt Mag Mile received a big refresh which included new feature art for the lobby, designed by Anderson Miller. One is a dimensional wall piece for the stairwell, which was our take on a topographical map of the Chicago shoreline. It was made of a laser cut MDF shoreline and stained wood blocks making up the city. They asked us to re-envision the dated chandelier in the lobby, which we accomplished by wrapping the existing framework in a bold blue fringe! It was completed by repurposing the beads from the original chandelier on the interior of the piece, creating an airy sculptural element.

PINTEREST TORONTO + MEDIA OBJECTIVES
We were invited by Media Objectives to create custom art for several areas in this new construction. The pieces were colorful and vibrant with lots of exciting materials and textures to fit their brand. RELISH + INTERIOR ARCHITECTS

The pieces were playful and inviting with lots of exciting materials and textures to fit their brand. Featured areas include a brand story wall printed directly onto custom cutting boards and two showstopper murals. The breakroom mural was painted directly onto the wood paneling - complete with custom lightbox; whereas the entry mural was projected down the hall, painted onto kithenware installed directly to the wall, and perfectly aligned with the logo vinyl on the front door.

VILLAGE OF OSWEGO
We were invited by the Village of Oswego, IL to design and create custom bike racks for their downtown refresh. We sought to design sculptural racks that could stand alone as public art when not being used. Inspired by the local flora + fauna, the racks are meant to add pops of color to brighten up the sidewalk. Each rack is unique and formed out of welded steel that was hand-painted in the studio.
Photography: Ian Vecchiotti

PINTEREST CHICAGO + MEDIA OBJECTIVES

Paper butterflies
These paper butterflies were donated to Creative Pitch and they found a home in the hands of these wee ones, spucing them up with color and life.

Trees
The trees used in our Chicago Community Trust installation were donated to Neighborspace - the only nonprofit urban land trust in Chicago that preserves and sustains gardens on behalf of dedicated community groups. NeighborSpace-protected gardens give young and old alike an opportunity to get their hands in the earth and enjoy nature, right in their own neighborhoods. They were carefully planted in the South Lawndale Triangle.
Respirator tubes
The tubes from our Medline project have been reused quite a few times! Jane Georges has used them in her new work, Tsunami.

Medical Teams International
On our Medline project we had some leftover medical supplies that could not be resold. However, we found Medical Teams International - they respond to disasters around the world—and here at home—by sending teams of volunteer medical professionals and medical supplies to care for the sick and injured. We are so glad these 'leftovers' went to good use!

The WasteShed
We LOVE to donate to the WasteShed. They seek to provide Chicago with an organized, affordable, and reliable resource for repurposed art, craft, and school materials. Creative reuse foregrounds practical, economical, and fun hands-on activities as points of entry into larger discussions about the things we own, and the way we live and sustainable ideals.
